AMBRIDGE REPRISE
Work is prayer. Work is also stink.
Therefore stink is prayer.

Mr. Bessemer's Toys

Baden

The night time glow marks a J & L Bessemer Converter blast furnace in action. The camera is in Baden just north of Ambridge and the furnace is on the far bank of the Ohio River.

A. M. Byres also has blast furnaces. Baden enjoys two spectacles and two sources of dirty foul air.

These furnaces were old technology even when the picture was taken. The newer factories built elsewhere in the country were more efficient and produced a cheaper higher quality iron.

Germany and Japan were rebuilt after the war. Their new steel and automobile industries and cheap labor would allow them to gain market advantage.
