A Neighborhood Grocery

Nawrocki Grocery

Neighborhood stores are important to the people of Ambridge. The wives go to the grocery and meat markets almost daily and the children are often sent, with a dime clutched in their fists, for a loaf of bread. The proprietors speak the languages of their customers.

The Nawrocki store opened in 1922 across from St. Stanislaus (Polish) Church on Beaver Road between 5th and 6th Streets. The 7 year old boy is Harry Nawrocki, who, like the building, can still be found in Ambridge.
